HealthShare/THA recently endorsed Management Dynamics Inc. and its Product Acquisition Consumption Evaluation Review, or PACER, program. PACER assesses product and service utilization patterns and applies value analysis to help your hospital identify ways to significantly reduce consumption and improve utilization of products throughout your facility. Typical results are savings of seven percent or more in supply costs, or an average of $12,000 to $15,000, per occupied bed. MDI is offering a mini-PACER assessment to Texas hospitals at no charge. Your non-salary costs will be compared against the company’s national database and you’ll receive a confidential report detailing possible opportunities for cost reduction. For more information, call Bill Quake, 252/240-1918 or bquake@management-dynamics.com.
Older Physicians Opt Out
According to a survey by Merritt Hawkins & Associates, 48 percent of physicians between the ages of 50 and 65 are planning to stop practicing medicine or reduce the number of patients they see in the next one to three years. These physicians plan to retire, seek non-clinical jobs, work part-time, close their practice to new patients, or significantly reduce the number of patients they see. With almost half of the physicians in the US already 50 years of age or older, this could drastically reduce access to physicians, according to Mark Smith, executive vice president of the firm. The survey also reports that 68 percent of older physicians believe that new physicians are less dedicated and hard-working than those who came out of training 20 to 30 years ago. Full results of the survey are available at merritthawkins.com or call 800/876-0500.
