When the Texas Hospital Association launched HealthShare/THA nearly 20 years ago, it was a novel concept. While other associations had group purchasing organizations and provided some services to members, nothing quite like what we were attempting had been done. By endorsing providers of services that improve the market position, community contribution and financial performance of Texas hospitals, we have also supported efforts to create a more favorable environment for those hospitals.
The Texas concept is being adopted in other states, and we're pleased to help start or refine these efforts. We believe that successful programs will contribute to overall improvement in the health care environment, which benefits us all. I recently had the privilege of chairing a meeting of organizations looking to start or improve programs like ours. Jim Goodloe, senior vice president at the Tennessee Hospital Association, had these kind words to say, "Every state association that does this kind of work has its own model, different variations of the same song, if you will. Texas' works well for them. They are usually a little bit ahead of the curve, and that is in part because of Vicki. She has a reputation among her peers that, if you want to see how it is done and how to be innovative, look at Texas." It is through the vision and support of our members and leadership that HealthShare/THA has become a success and a model for others. Thank you to everyone for backing us for all these years.
