NEWS

Mary Walker, RN, PhD, FAAN, will retire as Texas Healthcare Trustees (THT) President/CEO effective January 1, 2007.  All of us at HealthShare/THA express our thanks to Dr. Walker for her many years of service to THT and wish her the best in the future.  We'll miss you!  Stacy George Cantu, CAE, former executive director of Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide grassroots community improvement organization, becomes the new president/CEO of THT beginning January 2, 2007.

AMN Healthcare, a healthcare staffing organization that is part of The MHA Group, is funding the Council on Physician and Nurse Supply, a new, nationwide effort to study supply and shape public policy affecting it. The council's first meeting in October planned to examine a range of domestic and international issues to be addressed as the nation works to better align its health care workforce with future needs. Watch for information about the Council's work in future issues.

PROFILES

For New Docs

The experts at Merritt, Hawkins & Associates (The MHA Group) know that there are things physicians don't learn in medical school. Things like evaluating a contract, what to ask on an interview, and how to determine the practice setting best for them. So, the firm created an online classroom for new physicians, called, appropriately enough, NewPhysician.com. The site offers a critical edge in the competition for qualified candidates, providing the data physicians need to make good career decisions. It is just part of the comprehensive and innovative physician candidate sourcing provided by Merritt, Hawkins & Associates. Find out more about how it can help you by calling us at 800/252-9404 or David Curtis at 800/875-0500.

Flat Performance?

Solucient's third edition of the 100 Top Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders, showed that the industry's overall ability to improve performance over time has been limited.  Only a select group of hospitals showed clear improvement across the organization, resulting in better clinical outcomes and efficiency, increased financial strength, and growing patient volumes.  Awards were given to those hospitals and leadership  teams that made the greatest progress during a five-year period (2000-2004), in five catergories based on hospital size and teaching status.  Order a copy of 100 Top Performance Leaders for 2005 at www.100tophospitals.com

Better Batch Filing

Resource Corporation of America's (RCA) Profit Pal offers a better system for batch filing to verify patient eligibility - and your hospital pays fees only on accounts for which you actually receive money. With the Profit Pal system, you won't miss a Medicaid-eligible client, and won't have accounts go past billing deadline. The system also allows you to properly classify accounts and increase Medicaid days for your cost reports. Clean up those old accounts, be certain that your hospital staff or third party eligibility company doesn't miss any money, and don't pay a thing unless you recover payments. One Texas hospital runs about 80,000 accounts a week and finds an average of $120,000 in billable accounts each month that would otherwise go undetected. Find out how this new proprietary system's enhancements can bring more money into your hospital. Contact us at 800/252-9404 or Debbie Teesdale at 214/789-1650 or debbieteesdale@resource-corp.com today.
